Location- Draft pictures from Deal beach

On the day that we went to Deal beach to get some draft shots which we could compare to other beaches we happened to be really lucky with the weather. We got to Deal beach at midday which meant that the sun was out and the sky was blue and clear which made some of our shots look really good. We thought that the draft picture of Deal looked a lot better than they did in Margate however this may be due to the fact that we took pictures of Margate beach on quite a bleak day and we took pictures of Deal in very good weather. There are some advantages and disadvantages of us using Deal as our shooting location. For example, Deal has a pier which is somewhat of a landmark in the local area which means that if we use it in our film local audiences may understand the film to a slightly higher degree as they will be able to relate to it more. Despite this there is a big disadvantage to the pier which is that it is very busy which could cause problems when filming as pedestrians may walk past and ruin some of our shots. Another disadvantage to using Deal as our location is that it has a pebble beach which is not what we had previously invisiged.

A big advantage of shooting the film in Deal is the pier which we think could make for a very romantic location for our protagonists to meet for the first time. Due to there being a lot of vertical and horizontal lines in the architecture of the pier, it is quite good for framing shots. It makes it much easier to use the classical rule of thirds when framing our shops and it also makes it much easier for us to frame shots in slightly more different and quirkier ways such as the Wes Anderson-esque symmertical way of framing. As we are not using sound from the shots we don't think it would matter to much if people were to walk past during our filming. We also think that if we frame our shots correctly we should be able to film our actors without having anyone in the background.

The beach in Deal has a beautiful, recognizeable shoreline which includes traditional architecture which would fit in well with our time period as the area close to the beach hasn't changed a great deal since the late 1960's. This shot shows a very idyllic and romantic landscape which we think fits in well with the theme of the scene which centres around the romantic first encounter of our protagonists.

We thought that the shot above looked quite romantic as it showed to seperate couples together, one in the foreground and one in the background. The sun seeps through from the left side of the shot which eclipses both of the couple showing less detail on them. We would like to try to replicate this shot in  our film because we think that we could shoot it in a way that would completely cut out the beach as we are not sure that we would like to film it on deal beach but we are certain that we would like to use the pier. We also think that we could do this shot without showing any other people in the shot which could make them look isolated which we think looks more romantic.

Another shot which we took that we thought looked wuite romantic is the one pictured above. It shows the beautiful landscape view from the beach with a single person standing facing out to see in the background. We thought we could adapt this shot in our real film by placing the camera in the same place but having our two actors walking away towards the background of the shot while holding hands.
